Description
A bull walrus rests at sunset on a partly submerged rock on the shore of Round Island in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Each summer, numbers of bull walrus haul out on Round Island, part of the Walrus Islands State Game Sanctuary. Walruses spend long hours out of the water each day, a process of thermo-regulation. They can dive to about 300 feet to root through the ocean floor for mollusks upon which they feed.
