Description

Lesser sandhill cranes in autumn migrate from Alaska along the Pacific Flyway to California where they winter in the rice fields and refuge systems in the northern Sacramento Valley.  In spring they make the reverse journey, breeding and nesting in Alaska. Sandhill Cranes may reach the age of seven before breeding. Cranes mate for life, up to 20 years or more, and stay with their mates year-round.
