Humpback Whale Breaching, Alaska #927

Description

A humpback whale breaches in Frederick Sound, Southeast Alaska. The Sound separates Kupreanof Island to the south from Admiralty Island in the north and is a favorite feeding zone for humpbacks.  Breaching is thought to be a way to send messages to others in a pod because the powerful splash and sound can travel vast distances underwater.
