Description
A brown bear walks the Alaska coast at dawn on his way to a nearby river to fish for salmon. Chum salmon run in the river beginning in mid-July attracting large numbers of brown bears to partake of the rich protein. Some bears might double their body weight in a single season. This large male dominates the best fishing site at the river mouth. He likely has fished the river since he first followed his mother here as a tiny cub. The warm pre-dawn light paints the scene with a brilliant orange glow.
