Brown Bears Playing, Alaska #1152

Description

Three-year-old brown bear cubs play fight on spring sedge flats. Brown bear cubs usually stay with their mother for three years, separating in the third spring when the female enters estrus and breeds again. Large males attracted to the estrus female are a threat to even three-year-old cubs so the family group breaks apart. After the spring breeding season ends, the cubs may often be seen near their mother, but not in the close contact they once enjoyed and protected them.
