Grizzly Standing in Snow, Alaska #5172

Description

Standing Grizzly Bear in Snow, Alaska. In the Alaska Range Mountains, large male grizzly bears emerge from their dens about mid-April. Usually there is little snow, or snow that is melting fast. Sometimes, bears emerge and find deep snow but they begin to forage for food anyway. Slim fare until the snow melts. Smaller and younger bears emerge from their dens a little later. By early May almost all Alaska brown, grizzly, and black bears, are out of hibernation and looking for food.  Until green-up, bears eat almost anything they can scratch out or run down, including moose and caribou calves.
