Description
A male spruce grouse in summer feeding in a spruce tree. These grouse feed on the needles and are one of the few animals to subsist in winter on the resinous needles. Grouse spend a great deal of their time on the ground in summer feeding on insects, berries, and other plant types not available in winter. In spring, the bright red comb distinguishes the cock from the hen.
