Polar Bear Sunset Alaska #19146

Description

Polar bears are the largest of the world’s bear species and are considered marine mammals. Polar bears prey on ringed seals and, to a lesser extent on other ice seals, notably the bearded seal, in Alaska called “oogruk”. Polar bear biology is characterized by late sexual maturity and small litter sizes, factors that result in a very low reproductive rate. Females mature and breed for the first time at four or five years and give birth a year later. Litters of two cubs are most common.  A lone female roams the ice pack in evening in search of open leads and/or seal breathing holes where she will wait for her prey to surface.
