Description
Taken from about the 11,000′ level, this photo documents Karstens Ridge on the left. Located at the head of the Muldrow Glacier, the ridge leads upward and around the Harper Icefall (center) to Browne’s Tower, the point above and left of the icefall, and onward to Denali Pass and the twin summits of Denali. In 1913, Harry Karstens led the first successful ascent of Denali by foraging a route up the ridge that now bears his name. Walter Harper was first on the summit, with Hudson Stuck the expedition organizer.
