Description
During the autumn rut, a bull moose responds to an olfactory clue left by a cow moose. This lip curl, also known as the “flehmen response”, is a behavior in which the animal inhales with the mouth open and upper lip curled to facilitate exposure of a nasal organ to a scent or pheromone. The scent helps a bull determine a cow’s receptivity to mating.
