Humpback Whale Breaching, Alaska #1096

Description

In Alaska’s famed Inside Passage, a humpback whale breaches in a spray of seawater.  After returning from their wintering areas around the Hawaiin Islands, large numbers of humpbacks spend the summer in Southeast Alaska waters feasting on herring, candlefish, and other small fishes. On occasion, whales exhibit acrobatic behaviors such as tail-slapping and breaching.
