Description
Pacific walrus bulls are gregarious but contentious. On land and ice haul outs walrus crowd tightly together but regularly joust with one another for space. Bulls use their heavy tusks to jab and threaten their fellows. Pacific walrus weigh upwards of two tons yet can dive as deep as 300 feet were they forage for bivalves. Atlantic walrus bulls weight about 2200 pounds.
