Aurora Borealis, Denali Park, Alaska. A brilliant display of the northern lights dances over the snow-clad mountains in Denali National Park. After weeks of cloudy weather, the skies cleared, and the temperature dropped to below zero. Undaunted the photographer set out to photograph the northern lights and the tundra buried in fresh snow. Most Northern Lights are green in color but sometimes a hint of pink appears, and strong displays might also have red, violet and white colors. Red is considered the rarest color of the Northern Lights and occur at high altitudes of over 241 kilometers (150 miles), where the atmosphere is thinner. Multicolored auroral shows are often fast moving and awe-inspiring.
