Alaska Brown Bear Foggy Dawn, #4744

Alaska Brown Bear Foggy Dawn #4744

A male Alaska brown bear stands up in the dawn fog to look for salmon running in the nearby riffles. Bears often stand to get a better look of their surroundings and possibly the fog made it harder for this bear to locate salmon. Many fish were quite close by.  Bears employ a variety of fishing techniques; this bear usually spotted moving fish and ran them down in the riffles. Other times it claimed a spot in the shallows and waited for the fish to pass close by and then simply grabbed one in its jaws.
