Brilliant alpenglow lights the North Face of 20,310' Mount Denali at one a.m. on a clear spring morning. The massive icy face is also called the Wickersham Wall, in honor of Judge James A. Wickersham, who organized and led the first attempt on the summit in 1903. The attempt failed due to avalanches and technical climbing difficulties.
