Description
The tufted puffin is a somewhat abundant medium-sized seabird in the auk family. In Alaska, they nest on cliffs on rocky shores and islands where they dig burrows in soft soils on the steep cliffsides. This puffin has a black body, white face, and a tuft of yellowish feathers curling around its neck, thick orange bill and orange feet. Tufted puffins can dive up to 200 feet below surface and catch and carry a dozen or more small fish at one time.
