Description
Snowshoe hare in autumn begins to molt from brown summer coat to winter white. The change occurs somewhat rapidly as early winter sets in. In some years, the color change happens without snow cover and the white hares stand out against the brown background. This hare was found on a carpet of sphagnum moss in a forest setting and less than ten days later it had turned all-white.
