Sandpiper spring migration Alaska #2058

Description

Masses of western and least sandpipers, and other shorebirds, migrate along the Alaska Coast in spring. Large numbers feed and rest on the tidal flats after migrating north from their southern wintering grounds. Western Sandpipers are slightly larger with stouter bills and black legs instead of the Least Sandpiper’s yellowish legs. Dunlins, another type of shorebird, often migrate along with these sandpipers.
