Great Horned Owls #0059
Great Horned Owls, Alaska #0059
$25.00 – $255.00
Description
A great horned owl in its nest with an owlet, one of two that hatched. The nest overlooked the Nenana River. The adults usually brought snowshoe hares to the nest to feed the owlets but on one occasion an adult brought in a whitefish. How the owl caught the fish is unknown, but the owlets hungrily devoured the fish. Great horned owl nesting success rises when snowshoe hare numbers are high. Lynx, goshawks, and great horned owls are three predators that thrive when the hare cycle peaks.
