Great Gray Owl, Alaska #2800

Description

The Great Gray Owl appears to be the largest owl in Alaska, although both the Great Horned and Snowy Owls are heavier and stronger. Great Gray Owls are definitely taller than the more common Great Horned Owls. Grays do not have ear tufts and have a grayer head characterized by a large facial disc. The facial disc is composed of many feathers and helps direct sound to their ears. They can hear mice scurrying beneath deep snow.
