Snowy Owl Female Late Winter, #0231


Female snowy owls are not all-white but have some brown and dark barring. Male snowy owls are smaller and generally whiter than females and get whiter as they grow older. Females are larger than males. The oldest-known wild Snowy Owl was nearly 24 years old. The open tundra of the far north is their preferred habitat but in winter often irrupt in southern regions as prey dictates.
