Description
A brown bear searches for red salmon in dense fog over Naknek Lake, Alaska. On cool autumn mornings, fog forms over the lake and the shrill cries of gulls echo through the mists as brown bears stalk the shore in search of food. In fall, bears are intent on gaining weight and fat to see them through winter hibernation. They feast on post-spawning salmon as well as carcasses washed down by the nearby river. Brown bears may double their weight from spring through autumn.
