Description
On a late evening during the spring breeding season, a large male Alaska brown bear traverses the tidal flats in pursuit of a female. Wherever the female went the male followed, usually on a scent trail. The female kept considerable space between herself and the male. Likely she was near estrus and putting off scent. Only when fully in estrus will the female tolerate contact with the male and mating occur.
