Description
Female snowy owls have dark markings while males are paler and become whiter as they age. Snowy owls nest on the open tundra on a rather shallow grass nest. The male brings lemmings to the brooding female; later both adults will bring lemmings to the owlets. Nesting success depends on the availability of brown lemmings.
