Description
A six-week-old red fox pup near its den in a patch of wildflowers. Pups, also called kits, are born in late March into early April. Dens are usually dug in soft soils along riverbanks or disturbed mounds. Litters can vary from two to twelve, but commonly from four to six. Pups can be varied colors. Wolves sometime take over fox dens and enlarge them for their own use.
