Collared Pika, Alaska #7445

Description

The collared pika is unique to Alaska and northern Canadian mountain ranges; another species, the American pika, inhabits the mountains of the western U.S. Collared pikas take their name from a dark band of fur around their upper shoulders. These seven-to-eight inch long, five-ounce lagomorphs live in rock piles where they dry and store plants for winter use. Lagomorphs include rabbits, hares, and pikas.
