Description
Arctic foxes, also called white foxes, are animals of the far north. As winter approaches, they develop a dense fur coat that keeps them warm even in the harshest conditions. Arctic fox fur might offer the best insulation in the animal world. The multiple layers seal in body heat and keep out the cold. They are the only canine in the world with fur-covered paws. In spring, they lose their winter coat and morph to summer brown, in some cases a blue color. Red foxes, which are larger, are expanding northward into tundra zones and out-competing, and in places, replacing arctic foxes.
