Caribou Bull Tundra Alaska #3557

Description

A bull caribou rests on the colorful autumn Alaska tundra. By late august, the bull’s antlers had shed their velvet covering which had nourished them as they grew.  Bull caribou keep their antlers through early winter, then shed them after the rut. The antlers are used in dominance battles with dominant bulls the prime breeders.  Antlers regrow each spring.
